Developed by Intel with collaboration from Apple, high-speed Thunderbolt I/O (input/output) technology delivers an amazing 10 gigabits per second of transfer speeds in both directions. Apple raises the bar! : Apple MacBook Pro MD311LL/A 17-Inch Laptop (NEWEST VERSION)
I purchased my Macbook Pro 17 several months ago and after using it on both a personal and professional level i am completely satisfied:
PROS:
Screen: The HD screen is vivid and easy on the eyes even with the brightness turned down half way to conserve battery life.
Keyboard: The keyboard is comfortable and responsive, and now that I have experienced backlighting I would never want to go back.
Sound: The sound from the speakers is head an shoulders above the sound from my wife's PC she is always amazed when we play a song, youtube video, or DVD and it is consistently twice as loud as her computer. I also appreciate the fact my iPhone earbuds can control iTunes as well!
OS: If you are used to a PC it can taking a little time adjusting to the Mac OS but I find those unfamiliar with computing find the Mac OS much more intuitive an user friendly. It also makes certain task simple that can be frustrating on a PC.
Build: The Mac is ergonomic, sleek and light! There is nothing in the PC world that comes close to this build quality in my opinion. The single body architecture is not only elegant to the eye but it makes the computer feel much more sturdy as a whole.
Battery: Many people complain about the lack of a removable battery, I would join them if not for the incredible battery life I get from it. My old PC thrilled me when I got over an hour out of the battery, my has lasted over 3 hours of heavy use and up to 5 on medium use.
CONS:
Graphics Card: While the graphics are generally smooth and beautiful, I enjoy games and when boot camped the 1 Gig video card doesn't allow for the highest graphic settings on the newest games. For the price of the laptop it would have been nice having a better video card with more memory.
Cost: The Mac does not come cheap. I understand you get what you pay for but when many PC spec out better for $500.00 cheaper you have to admit you are paying a little more for a name than you really should!
Conclusion:
All things considered I am completely satisfied with my purchase. There is no PC on the market that allows the same flexibility and dual platform capability, having the mac I have the best the Apple and PC world have to offer in a sleek package of the highest quality. Since converting from PC to Mac 6 year ago I have never looked back and I don't see myself changing any time soon.
